Sarah Robarts (1969-)

Sarah Robarts was born in Uganda and raised in Kenya by an architect father and a painter mother. When she was 3 years old Idi Amin came into power and her family was exiled from Uganda. Robarts has traveled all over and has spent time painting in Israel, France, Kenya, Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Influenced by post-war American abstract and color-field painters, Robart’s own style of painting follows that of Franz Kline, Willem de Kooning, and Joan Mitchell while her vibrant color palette is inspired by Milton Avery, Helen Frankenthaler, Richard Diebenkorn, David Hockney, and Morris Louis. In her new work, the artist continues to capture the California light and the wonderful colorful chaos of living in Los Angeles.
